True to its name, in the 1880s the Carriageworks workshops in Sydney were used for building and maintaining train engines and carriages to meet the demands of Sydney’s expanding rail network. Today, Carriageworks is exclusively used for creative projects and events – fashion shows, exhibitions, performances and now, a very special bridal photoshoot.
The moody, industrial setting of Carriageworks was the perfect contrast for the soft and feminine accessories in our new collection; The Romantics. We’ve returned to the classics when designing this collection, focusing on decadent headpieces, embellished veils and statement earrings.
To bring the collection to life, we worked with a talented group of creatives. Photographer Jack Henry and videographer Josh Carr-Hummerstons captured both the intricate details of the accessories and the impact of the full bridal look. Thanh Vo used her hair and makeup artistry to beautifully style models Hailey and Lilly and our stylist for the shoot was our good friend, Sophie Kirkby from Engaged Creative.
Just like Carriageworks has been reinvented for a different and creative purpose, we’ve breathed new life into classical pearls, bows and florals to create a line of fashion-forward bridal accessories.
French fashion designer Coco Chanel was the queen of timeless style, championing the simple yet sophisticated aesthetic, with tailored suits, little black dresses and layers of pearl necklaces. We’ve also championed pearls, but through headpieces, veils and earrings. Some of our favourite pieces are the MARA pearl birdcage veil, the VIENNA pearl drop earrings and ADELINE pearl headband.
We’ve introduced the classical bow design in a new and bold way, transitioning them from sweet to sophisticated. We have several new pieces which feature bows, including the LAURENCE shoulder veil, with the statement bows attaching to the shoulders of dress, the HEPBURN veil, with a scattering of satin bows, and the slender, gold LUCIA bow earrings.
Our signature floral detailing remains a prominent feature, however, this time we’ve turned to smaller, delicate sprinklings of flowers, as seen in the ODESSA shoulder cape, SABLE headpiece, PEPE circle veil, MORNINGTON floral earrings and BLAKE floral drop veil.

Dainty, detailed and bold, bridal crowns feature strongly in the collection. From the ANTOINETTE tiara to the EVELEIGH headband through to the CASPIAN, there is a crown for every queen.

We hope you will find your ultimate bridal look in The Romantics collection, and enjoy returning to the classics with us.

From the moment Alicia and partner Victor drove up to the gates of Milton Park Country House they immediately fell in love with this fairy tale venue. Located in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Milton Park boasts beautiful, rambling gardens, ornate water features and sculptures and the oldest Weeping Beeches in Australia. These giant, dome-like trees make for the most magical photos (see above and below).
Once the wedding venue was decided on, Alicia needed equally special accessories to match the beautiful location. Her pick of the bunch were our rose AURORA earrings and floral lace RIVIERA veil, to tie in with the magical, garden theme.
An embellished veil captures the mood of a springtime wedding like no other accessory. Adorned in florals, lace, pearls, crystals, or all of the above, an embellished veil will instantly elevate the simplest wedding gown and perfectly frame a dramatic gown. Our exquisite veils are designed and handcrafted in-house so we can design and create a wedding veil to suit your wedding gown without drawing attention away from the beautiful details on your dress.
To help find her dream dress and accessories and narrow down her ideas, Alicia took to Pinterest and Instagram. However, it was conversations with other brides and her mum that proved to be the greatest help. The best wedding dress advice she received was from her mum, who said to “pick something you feel like you in.” Alicia knew she wanted a backless dress, and a style that was timeless.
“I had gone to Karen Willis Holmes to look at a completely different dress. By chance, I picked out this one and tried it on. I had tried so many different styles and this was the first time that I felt like a bride but also like myself. I knew it was the dress for me because I couldn’t wait to show my now husband.”
Before she decided on her dress, Alicia had been admiring the Tania Maras veil collection. When she picked her dress she knew the embellished RIVIERA veil, featuring hand-beaded organza flowers, floral lace and a scattering of pearls, would match perfectly. We customised the veil for her, to incorporate blusher layer.
“I loved how beautiful and intricate the RIVIERA veil was but loved the idea of a blusher as well. There’s so something so classic yet dramatic about blushers,” Alicia enthuses.
She finished off the look with the AURORA earrings, a feminine design with statement roses and cascading pearls.
“My dress was quite simple so it gave me room to play with elaborate accessories which is my usual style. I picked the RIVIERA veil and AURORA earrings in particular as I feel like they matched our garden theme beautifully.”
From the ceremony to the reception, the couple personalised their wedding with many special touches.
“The priest that married us was the chaplain at my husband’s work so it was an honour that he was able to marry us in the gardens. We both wrote our own vows and that would have to be one of my favourite parts of the entire day,” says Alicia. “My husband and I are both South American so we had cultural dances during the reception from each of our home countries which was really special.”
As Alicia and Victor’s wedding was affected by the pandemic, they came up with a novel (and practical) favor idea for their guests.
“We thought it would cute to offer personalised hand sanitisers with our wedding date, as wedding gifts,” says Alicia.
Sophie is a much-loved bridal stylist in the wedding industry and we’ve called upon her talents on many occasions for photoshoots and creative campaigns. Sophie is our trusted stylist for pulling together beautiful bridal looks to showcase our unique accessories.
It’s not often that someone in the Tania Maras Bridal family ties the knot, and when they do, we celebrate by creating a beautiful veil for them!
We were honoured to contribute to Sophie and her partner David’s special day. We made a Morning Mist crystal veil for Sophie, to add a touch of sparkle to her classic ballgown by Australian designer, Georgia Young Couture.
“Tania is not only an incredible designer but has now turned into a beautiful friend,” says Sophie. “She captured the look I was going for straight away and knew that the Morning Mist in a cathedral length would complement the vision I was trying to achieve.”
Bridal stylist Sophie is currently the Co-Founder and Style Director of two businesses – wedding dress directory service, Love Find Co and creative marketing studio, Engaged Creative.
“Engaged Creative takes up 99% of my working week and I love it as no day is different – between having strategy sessions with our clients, being on set for editorials or rebranding up and coming wedding vendors, I absolutely love everything to do with Engaged Creative and what it has evolved into,” enthuses Sophie.
Having worked in the fashion and bridal industry for close to 10 years, Sophie was well prepared when it came time to plan her own dream wedding, which took place at the scenic Ooralba Estate in Kangaroo Valley, NSW.
“I really wanted my wedding to be a reflection of Dave and myself! Our biggest point throughout planning our wedding was that we wanted everyone to just have the best time. The inspiration and key design elements that I tried to incorporate was modern, attainable and chic. I would spend hours in Pinterest researching different design elements and pinning different parts of the wedding.”
With the wealth of talent here in Australia, Sophie was determined to support local bridal designers.
“We have so much talent here in Australia and it’s an incredible experience being able to see your gown from start to finish with a designer who designs and produces here,” says Sophie.
She worked with two designers for her two looks, wearing a classic ballgown for the ceremony and a sparkly dress to dance the night away in!
“Originally I wanted a gown that was quiet heavily embellished however after trying on a number of different looks something more classic with no beading felt way more me! I wanted a gown that I could look back in 30 years time and it would still be a classic,” says Sophie. “I was lucky enough to work with Georgia Young Couture for my first gown who created a one shoulder ballgown and then the incredible Karen Willis Holmes who’s gown allowed me to have a bit more fun with sparkles and allowing me to dance up a storm!”
As Sophie’s first gown had no embellishments, she wore our Morning Mist veil, featuring a scattering of crystal details which sparkled as she walked down the aisle. Her hair was styled in a low bun that was heavily curled, so she was able to undo the bun and release tousled waves for her second look.
One of Sophie’s favourite moments from the wedding was when she was given a very romantic and thoughtful gift from her husband David. He gave her an album at the end of the night filled with special moments they shared over the last ten years together. From little love notes to menus from special dinners and holiday snaps, David selected mementoes to represent the beautiful times they’ve shared together so far.
“At the end it said that it was an overview of the past 10 years we’ve been together and he cannot wait to fill the rest of the blank pages with me in our life as a married couple.”
From the moment we stepped onto the beautiful grounds of Milton Park we were captivated by this magical venue. From the ivy-covered pool house, to the ornate fences and hidden archways, it was as though we had entered the set of The Secret Garden. Located in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, the grounds of Milton Park were the perfect backdrop for our new collection of floaty veils, regal crowns and statement earrings.
Designer and Creative Director, Tania Maras, was inspired by the art and sentiment of the Renaissance era when creating this new collection.
“The relevance of Renaissance is that of rebirth which felt timely with all things pandemic and the many changes around us,” says Tania. “It plays on the ‘renaissance’ style/aesthetic but also the deeper meaning of rebirth, innovation and change that came from the renaissance era.”
The Renaissance collection is a tribute to strength, femininity and possibilities. Featuring rich gold, silver and blush tones, lush florals and intricate beading, these designs have been handcrafted for ultra-romantic bridal looks.
Let’s take a closer look at the collection.

Over the last few months our studio has begun to somewhat resemble a haberdashery store, as beautiful bundles of lace trims started arriving at our doorstep. Beaded, corded, stitched and sequinned – soon the cutting table (and our head space) was filled with laces and possibilities, as we began designing and creating pieces for our newest collection.
We are excited to release the Paloma collection. Paloma is the Spanish word for ‘dove’. We took inspiration from these beautiful creatures, along with the exotic styles and aesthetics of the Mediterranean. Designer and Creative Director, Tania Maras, designed these new pieces to have a staring role in your bridal look. Feminine, dramatic and utterly romantic, this collection includes decadently embellished accessories, featuring laces, beading and florals.
“The Paloma Collection is inspired by birds of flight that roam the earth and sky. Peaceful yet powerful, the collection features statement wedding capes, veils, earrings and hair pieces to showcase the beauty of the free-spirited bride,” says Tania.

We photographed the collection at Mrs Fray Bridal Concept Store, a light and airy bridal boutique in Canberra. The earthy tones and magical lighting in the store made for some beautiful backdrops. The boutique stocks dresses by Karen Willis Holmes and Prea James Bridal (along with others), which we styled with our accessories.
A talented team of creatives brought our vision to life. Tania’s talented brother, Martin Maras alongside Hayden Sault, beautifully captured the mood of the collection. We also had the expertise of Kate Lily, on hair, and Jessica Peris, on makeup. Plus the beautiful Tahlia Toth modelled the pieces with grace and style.
With Señorita, by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello playing in the background, we channelled ‘Spanish princess’ vibes during the day, to help capture the regal and exotic mood of the collection. Previously, the brand focused on pairing veils with headpieces. As an alternative, this collection is about showcasing how lace capes and statement earrings can be styled together for stunning results. Along with capes and earrings, we’ve also released new birdcage veils, crowns, headbands and hairpins, which can transform a simple dress into something very special.

The soft, billowy beauty of a veil can completely transform your bridal look with its movement and drape. And while we love minimalist and traditional veils, an embellished wedding veil adorned with laces, crystals or pearls can feel fresh and infinitely romantic.
The design possibilities of embellished veils are endless. From veils that are dripped in feather-soft organza blooms, to veils dotted with soft ivory pearls and dazzling crystals, embellishments add texture and detail to an otherwise blank canvas. With lengths and styles customisable to suit you, your veil can beautifully complement your body shape and dress and capture your personality.
Dramatic veils also pair beautifully with modern silhouettes, from on-trend body suits to barely-there dresses. For a look that’s enchanting and sensual, find our styling tips on how to style and make a statement with your wedding veil.
Shop this look: RIVIERA veil
Our signature floral wedding veils are layered with lace motifs, organza flowers and bead work, with each layer adding texture and dimension. The effect from a far is romantic and dreamy, as the floral elements set onto sheer tulle give the illusion that they’re floating over you. But the veils are just as beautiful up close, where the detailed bead work can be fully appreciated.
A floral veil doesn’t need to feel heavily embellished or overwhelming. The organic details can be applied to the top of the veil only – to frame your shoulders and hairstyle – as seen in the CATALINA, WEEPING CHERRY and RIVIERA veils. If your dress is more detailed across the top with lace sleeves or a beaded bodice, the floral details can float along the train of the veil and drape behind you as walk – as seen in NIGHT GARDEN veil. If you’d like head-to-toe florals, then the ATHENA veil might be perfect for you. All veils can be made with or without a blusher layer and in varying lengths.
Pearls feel classical and timeless, and a scattering of pearls on a veil can have a modern and chic effect. Even if your look is a little more traditional, a pearl veil can exudes a more contemporary vibe compared to a more traditional or vintage-inspired lace trimmed veil.
Reminiscent of drifting snow flakes, our pearl veils are made with soft bridal illusion tulle and crystal pearls. The pearls are attached by hand, with special attention to placement, so that the overall effect is balanced, flattering and seamless.
The pearl details can be placed on the top, as seen on the THEODORE veil, or along the bottom of the veil – the LUMIERE veil. For a look that’s next level, the pearl embellishments can be applied and scattered all over. It’s everything we love about the NADIA veil. Our veils can be made with or without a blusher and available in cathedral, chapel or fingertip lengths.
Crystal accents were once only for the bling-obsessed bride. No longer a detail to be feared, our range of crystal veils have been designed to reflect a more captivating and intriguing mood. The result is added drama and romance to a bridal look – without the excessive ‘bling’ factor.
In designing our collection of crystal veils, we looked to the night sky for inspiration. Each shimmering crystal has been meticulously applied by hand to catch the light and enlighten your bridal look in an effortless, celestial and ethereal way.
One of our most versatile crystal veil designs is the airy and dramatic MORNING MIST veil. This veil features crystals that are scattered around the face, shoulders and neckline. For sparkle from head to toe, the DEWBERRY feels dreamy and dramatic without the overwhelm.
