We share our step-by-step guide on how to measure your wrist for a bridal bracelet.

Choosing the perfect bridal bracelet is a delightful part of your wedding planning process, but ensuring it fits just right is key to achieving that polished, elegant look. Whether you’re shopping online or having a custom piece made, knowing your wrist size will help you find a bracelet that’s both comfortable and flattering.

A well-fitting bracelet is one that’s snug enough to stay in place, yet loose enough to allow for comfortable movement. Here’s a simple guide on how to measure your wrist for a bridal bracelet.

1. Gather your tools

You’ll need:

  • A flexible measuring tape; the kind used for sewing or craftingg is perfect.
  • If you don’t have a measuring tape, a strip of paper or a piece of string can be used as an alternative.
  • A ruler will be handy for measuring the paper or string if you’re not using a tape measure.
  • A pen or pencil for marking the paper or string.

2. Find your wrist bone

Locate the prominent bone on the outside of your wrist. This is where your wrist begins to widen into your hand, and it’s the point around which you’ll measure for the best fit. It’s usually the narrowest part of your wrist.

3. Measure your wrist

Using a measuring tape:

Wrap the tape around your wrist by positioning the tape just below the wrist bone. Ensure the tape is snug but not too tight. You should be able to fit a finger comfortably between the tape and your skin. Note the number where the end of the tape meets the rest of the tape. This is your wrist size.

Using paper or string:

Wrap the paper or string around your wrist, snugly just below the wrist bone. Use a pen or pencil to mark where the paper or string overlaps. Lay the paper or string flat and use a ruler to measure the length from the end of the mark. This measurement is your wrist size.

Measure your wrist a couple of times to ensure accuracy. It’s better to have a precise measurement than to guess.

4. Determine your bracelet size

Now that you have your wrist measurement, the next step is to decide how you want the bracelet to fit.

  • Snug fit: Add 0.5cm (1/4 inch) to your wrist measurement.
  • Comfortable fit: Add 1.25cm (1/2 inch) to your wrist measurement.
  • Loose fit: Add 2 to 2.5cm (3/4 inch to 1 inch) to your wrist measurement.

For example, if your wrist measures 6 inches, your bracelet size would be:

  • Snug fit: 6.25 inches
  • Comfortable fit: 6.5 inches
  • Loose fit: 6.75 to 7 inches

5. Consider the bracelet style

Different bracelet styles may require slight adjustments in size. Bangles typically neeed to be slightly larger to fit over your hand. Measure the widest part of your hand (around the knuckles) to ensure the bangle will slide on easily.

Cuff bracelets are often adjustable, so you may have more flexibility with sizing. Choose a size close to your wrist measurement for a snug fit, and gently adjust as needed.

The fit of pearl bracelets can vary depending on the size of the pearls. Larger pearls on a bracelet will sit a bit tighter than smaller pearl so keep this in mind when you select your size.

6. Order your bracelet

Now that you have your wrist measurement and know the fit you prefer, you’re ready to shop for your bridal bracelet.  If you’re ordering a custom piece, provide your jewellery designer with your exact wrist size and the type of fit you want.

When ordering online, check the bracelet’s size guide if available, as different brands may have slight variations in sizing.
